Jay Peterson joined Eastern Michigan University in May 2012 as founding Program Director for the Physician Assistant (PA) Program. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Ohio (now The University of Toledo) PA Program with 8 years of experience in PA education and 12 years of clinical practice experience as a PA.
Mr. Peterson was an Assistant Professor in The University of Toledo Department of PA Studies from 2007 - 2011. During his time at Toledo, he excelled as a teacher in the classroom, held numerous program and college committee positions, and presented at state and national conferences. In 2010, he was the principal investigator (PI) for a federal grant that resulted in funding of over $1,000,000. He also acted as co-founder, chairperson and endowment fund administrator of an interdisciplinary scholarship fund for students to honor a former teacher, friend, and colleague who suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Mr. Peterson has experience working clinically as a PA in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in private practice and hospital settings. He continues to practice medicine clinically in Orthopedics on a part-time basis. He has been a clinical preceptor for PA and other health care students, a guest lecturer in other PA programs, and also took some doctoral courses in Kinesiology while at The University of Toledo. Mr. Peterson has served roles in multiple state (MAPA) and national (NCCPA, ARC-PA) PA organizations.
