Emulsion Polymerization and Waterborne Coatings

This course specifically deals with water-based resin technologies, coating formulation and properties. Emulsion polymerization, water-reducible polymers preparation methods and coating formulation guidelines will be discussed. To reinforce the learning, a half-day emulsion polymerization and coating formulation lab is included.

Who should attend

Designed to provide technical information for paint manufacturers, industry suppliers and users of coatings and paint materials at all levels. It is specifically recommended for resin chemists, formulators, raw materials suppliers, paint users, engineers and quality control personnel.

    Day one:
    Waterborne polymers and coating technologies

  • Introduction to waterborne polymers and coatings
  • Waterborne resin types and properties
  • Water-reducible and latex resins: acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, polyester, polyurethane and hybrid resins
  • Film formation and cure of waterborne coatings

    Day two:
    Polymer preparation and formulation guidelines

  • Emulsion polymerization technologies
  • Additives, pigments and their function
  • Waterborne coating formulation and guidelines
  • Formulating automotive, industrial and maintenance coatings
  • Half-day laboratory session: formulation and application

    Day three:
    Formulation, application and evaluation

  • Adhesion of waterborne coatings
  • Corrosion control with waterborne coatings
  • Electro-coat and special-purpose coatings
  • Testing and evaluation
  • Problem-solving session

Enrollment is limited to 24 participants.
The fee for this 3-day course is $1,250 which covers program materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and breaks. Lodging and other meals are not included. A certificate of participation is presented to each registrant.

If you do not attend the seminar and do not cancel or transfer prior to the start date, the seminar fee is non-refundable.
