Visiting Other Libraries

EMU students, faculty, and staff have options for borrowing materials in-person at other libraries.

These reciprocal borrowing arrangements also allow patrons from other institutions that participate in these programs to borrow materials from the EMU Library.

MeLCat Visiting Patron

This service allows EMU faculty, staff, and currently registered students to borrow materials in person at participating Michigan libraries. Look for libraries with a Yes under Visiting Patron in this list, and call in advance to find out if the library is currently open and allowing visiting patrons.

Reciprocal Borrowing at the University of Michigan Libraries

University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University students, faculty and staff are eligible for guest borrowing privileges at the other institution. To qualify, an individual must be a currently enrolled student, faculty, lecturer or staff member in good standing.

  • Faculty and lecturers: simply need to show a current EMU ID to U-M Circulation Desk staff when they are ready to check out.
  • Students and staff: must register for a U-M Library card before going to U-M.

Most items circulate for three weeks and may be renewed unless requested by another borrower. Items must be returned to the institution from which they were borrowed. Failure to follow guest borrowing policies and procedures may result in sanctions or termination of privileges from either or both institutions.
