Faculty Internship
Program
ORIGIN and CONCEPT
The Faculty Internship Program was
developed in 1981. It is intended to provide faculty advisors
exposure to the broader experience of advising, by assigning
them for one semester to the Academic Advising Center (usually
as a 50% release from their departments). Faculty Interns
receive training, which usually occurs during the winter semester,
and information to prepare them for advising new students
or currently enrolled students assigned to the Academic Advising
Center. They work alongside full-time advisors.
The Internship Program also enables
faculty to share updated information on their department's
programs of study, as well as new or changed course offerings.
Upon completing their internship,
faculty members return to their departments, usually to serve
as primary advisors and/or contact persons for the Academic
Advising Center.
PARTICIPATION
To participate, faculty should contact
their department head. The department head should then contact
the Director of the Academic Advising Center to explore placement
by phone or by e-mail.
Placement is not automatic; all requests must be submitted
by formal application (forms are available at the Academic
Advising Center) and priority placements must be evaluated
and approved by the Provost's Office.
