To cultivate and disseminate knowledge about the African American experience in particular and the global Black experience in general
To provide students with the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary for effective functioning in a multicultural, multiracial, and technologically advanced society
To enhance the students' understanding of the role of multiple factors, such as race, gender, and class in shaping the sociopolitical and economic orders of the domestic and global Black communities
