Department Objectives

  • To cultivate and disseminate knowledge about the African American experience in particular and the global Black experience in general

  • To provide students with the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary for effective functioning in a multicultural, multiracial, and technologically advanced society

  • To enhance the students' understanding of the role of multiple factors, such as race, gender, and class in shaping the sociopolitical and economic orders of the domestic and global Black communities

  • To empower students to write and think clearly and critically
