Sept. 13, 2006: The faculty union has accepted EMU's offer for fact-finding. All classes for the fall semester will continue. Read the press release.

Sept. 11, 2006: The strike has been suspended. All classes are under way. The faculty will meet at noon to discuss details of EMU's latest offer. Read the press release.

Sept. 8, 2006: EMU has posted the details of its Sept. 5 offer to the AAUP.

Sept. 5, 2006: EMU terminated negotiations as AAUP rejected "last, best offer."

Sept. 3, 2006: Sunday night, EMU issued a letter to the AAUP demanding that they put students first.

Sept. 1, 2006: Thursday night, EMU faculty walked out of negotiations and declared an illegal strike. EMU filed an unfair labor practice as a result of the faculty's actions. Aug. 30, 2006: EMU and the AAUP began meeting with the mediator that EMU had requested from MERC.


Since the AAUP has declared a strike, EMU has set up a new web site for strike information, and a new telephone hotline: 734.487.2661.

Eastern Michigan University and the EMU chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) began formal negotiations June 9, 2006 to work out a new collective bargaining agreement.

This web site will be the official source of news and information regarding the negotiations. All members of the EMU community may login to this site using their my.emich username and password.

Information on this web site currently includes press releases, a description of the bargaining process, summaries of the negotiating sessions, and a glossary of terms. You may access this information by using the navigation bar on the left side of this page. Additional information will be included here as the process continues.
