Admissions policy

The Admissions Committee of the ECHT evaluates complete applications according to the following criteria:

  • the applicant's academic record
  • the applicant's reasons for selecting this particular program
  • the applicant's ability to meet the special demands of extended overseas travel and study.

Essay topic

In order to help the admissions committee to better evaluate your application, write a brief autobiographical statement (600-800 words) that addresses the following: The Cultural History Tours are intense travel-study experiences. You will be visiting many fascinating places. However, you will also be giving up many of the comforts of home such as your own bed, shower, your favorite meals, and a degree of privacy. You will be working with a larger group that requires teamwork, and a willingness to adapt to the needs of the group rather than the individual. You will need to use time-management skills to balance your academic coursework with free time.

  • What experiences have you had that might prepare you for this program?
  • What interpersonal skills do you bring to the group?
  • In what ways will the challenges of being a Cultural History Tour group member provide you with opportunities for academic and personal growth?
Recommendations

The two recommendation forms are to be given to faculty members at your college or university who have served as your instructors or academic advisors and are able to evaluate your suitability for the European Cultural History Tour. It is your responsibility to collect the completed recommendation forms and return them with your application, pre-payment and essay to our office. Have the faculty member complete the recommmendation, put it in an envelope, seal the envelope and sign across the seal.
