Dr. George Klein
Director, Academic Programs Abroad
Dr. Klein has been Director of Academic Programs Abroad since 1986. He previously taught Humanities in the Interdisciplinary Studies program at Wayne State University and English at EMU. He received his doctorate in English Language and Literature from the University of Oregon in 1974. |

Dr. Gordon Knutson
Director, Cultural History Tours
Dr. Knutson has been directing and teaching History and Political Science for the Cultural History Tours since 1984 and was Director of the Cultural History Tours from 1990-2003. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, and has lived in China. The Asian Cultural History Tour was developed by Dr. Knutson as the Asian complement to the European Cultural History Tour. Both programs emphasize interdisciplinary teaching, and the integration of experiential learning with academic coursework. The ACHT itinerary included significant cultural and historical destinations in; India, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore and Nepal. Dr. Knutson previously taught History and Political Science at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, and received his doctorate in History from the University of Kansas.

Benita Goldman
Program Associate, Cultural History Tours
Benita Goldman directs and teaches programs abroad, and coordinates programs, outreach and media for the Office of Academic Programs Abroad.
She has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Since 1992 she has taught on programs abroad. She previously served as a faculty member in the Art Department at Missouri Southern in Joplin. She holds an M.F.A. in Painting from Eastern Michigan University, and studied Drawing and Color Theory at Yale University. Benita has been the recipient of two Michigan Arts Council Grants, an Atlantic Center for the Arts Fellowship, a number of art awards and a scholarship from Yale University.

Jeremy Baldwin
Senior Tour Manager
Jeremy Baldwin coordinates, directs and manages programs for the Office of Academic Programs Abroad. He began working for EMU's Academic Programs Abroad full-time as Senior Tour Manager, both managing and directing Cultural History Tours in 1998. Jeremy was a student on ECHT in 1993 and on ACHT in 1996. He has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and Africa. He holds an undergraduate degree from Loyola University in Chicago in Political Science.

Justin Meilgaard
Study Abroad Advisor
Justin Meilgaard has been in study abroad advising and administration since 1990. He served for several years as the Resident Director of an American study abroad program in Oxford, England. After his return to the U.S., he worked as an overseas advisor at the University of Colorado, Boulder and at Lexia International in Palo Alto, California. He holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton University (Modern European History) and a graduate degree from the University of Chicago (International Relations).

Cheryl Guerra
Senior Secretary
Cheryl Guerra has been the Senior Secretary for the Office of Academic Programs Abroad since 1996. She fulfills administrative duties of the office and co-ordinates APA programs with other campus offices, including registration and billing departments. She has worked for EMU since 1985, previously working in the Education Center at Chrysler Corporation.
