Art in Mexico City

Academics

February 21-March 1, 2009

Academics:
Earn 3 credits in Art on this Winter Break tour. Stay in central Mexico City while studying the society, art and culture of region. Coursework will focus on Mexico City’s rich visual traditions from the Preclassic to the Modern periods, with visits to Teotihuacan, the Temples of the Moon and Sun, museums, churches and palaces. A central theme of the program will be the relationship between indigenous culture and European domination. The Mexican Muralist tradition will be explored at the Palacio Mayor and Palacio des Bellas Artes, with discussions of the masterpieces of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Visits to Frida Kahlo's home and the studios of Rivera and Kahlo will give us a personal glimpse into the working lives of these important Mexican artists.

Choose Art 100 for three credit hours (satisfies Gen Ed requirements) or Art 379 (Special Topics) for three credit hours. Links for syllabi available shortly.
