Program Description:

The China Plus Tibet Cultural History Tour is a 20 or 26 day tour that begins in Shanghai and ends in Xian or Lhasa, Tibet. It is a completely unique approach to university study abroad. It combines a tour of major cultural and historical sites in China and Tibet with intense academic study of the culture and history being experienced.

The China Plus Tibet Cultural History Tour is based on many years of experience with Asian Cultural History tours. Thus, the faculty and staff have a great deal of experience traveling in China, and Tibet. It's an ideal learning environment because it integrates reading and writing with direct involvement to give a richer understanding of the subject than book learning alone could possibly provide.

OTHER "CULTURAL HISTORY TOURS" ARE ALSO AVAILABLE: A Vietnam-Cambodia-Thailand Tour: a 20 day tour traveling to Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Saigon, Siem Reap, Angkor, and Bangkok; and an Asian Cultural History Tour: a 45 day tour traveling to Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Saigon, Siem Reap, Angkor, Bangkok, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shaolin, Beijing, Xian, and Lhasa. All Cultural History Tours offer courses and credit in history and other major disciplines.

Cultural History Tour Advantages:

The emphasis is on culture

Our tours are designed to involve students in varied cultural experiences in key cultural centers. On the China Plus Tibet Cultural History Tour we allow time in major cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shaolin, Beijing, Xian, and Lhasa to enable students to further explore for themselves the cultural environment of these great cities. Cultural performances are included in the program fee as well as museum tickets and visits to sites. The academic emphasis provides a coherent context for site visits and activities.

You get college credit

Students on the program may earn up to 6 credit hours of Eastern Michigan University credit. Students should consult with the EMU study abroad adviser or their academic adviser to assess how this credit will fit into their academic program.

The tour is university sponsored.

Since the China Plus Tibet Cultural History Tour is sponsored by Eastern Michigan University, it costs less than comparable commercial tours while providing college credit.

Our staff is top quality

All faculty members on the China Plus Tibet Cultural History Tour hold Ph.D.s or M.F.A.s from leading universities. The faculty consists of widely traveled university professors.

We're experienced

During the last 28 years, our staff has conducted 143 successful tours to Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Israel, Egypt, China, Vietnam, Tibet, and other parts of Asia. In planning itineraries, we rely on our staff's thorough knowledge of Asian culture acquired through extensive travel and study.
