28 km north of Jixian Country, which is about 120 km north from Tianjin, there is another section of the Great Wall which is less known to foreigners. The Great Wall at Huangyaguan was originally built in 557 and rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty. There is now an international marathon held on the Great Wall annually. The program fee includes an excursion to the Great Wall at Badaling.

Program Description:

The EMU International Business Short Course Abroad in Tianjin, China offers students the opportunity to earn three credits in International Business, while engaging in culturally-rich experiential learning. This program fulfils the study abroad requirement for the International Business degree.


Program Fee includes:

  1. Ten days in Tianjin, China, including seven days of coursework at Tianjin University of Commerce
  2. Full room and board while in Tianjin
  3. Hotel Accommodations while in Beijing
  4. Visit to the Great Wall of China
  5. Sightseeing and shopping trip in Tianjin
  6. CMI International Health Insurance
  7. International Student Identity Card
  8. All program-related ground transportation
  9. Sightseeing in Beijing
  10. Interaction/meeting with Chinese buisness managers while in Beijing
Items not included:
  1. Tuition for 3 undergraduate credits
  2. Round-trip air transportation (approx. $1200)
  3. Visa (approx. $90)
  4. Three days of meals off campus
  5. Passports, textbooks, laundry, independent travel and expenses of a purely personal nature

China Short Course Schedule: Course IB 475

The program will be divided into 18 four-hour segments. These will break down as:

Four Chinese culture classes (e.g., cooking, Chinese papercut, etc.)

Two History of China classes

Two Chinese economic development classes

Two Marketing in China classes

Two Chinese management issues classes (expatriates, staffing, training)

Two organized tours of Tianjin business

Two sightseeing tours of Tianjin area

Two shopping excursions

   2008 Daily itinerary Overview

 

  • May 11: Departure from Detroit
  • May 12: Arrival in Beijing, check in hotel
  • May 13: Transfer to Tianjin,
  • May 14-21: Orientation in Tianjin and classes in Tianjin
  • May 22-24: Return to Beijing: two days for tours, and one day meeting with company representatives
  • May 25: end of program; students are free to stay longer for individual travel

About Tianjin:

Tianjin, one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government in China, is located in the northeast of the North China Plain and is the closest seaport to Beijing. The city is one of the biggest industrial and port cities in China and it is also known as "the diamond of the Bohai Gulf". Tianjin covers an area of 11,000 square kilometers (4,200 square miles) and has a population in excess of 10 million people.
Tianjin is amunicipality directly administrated under the Central Government, as well as an opening city; one of the most prosperous business areas as well as a distribution center for goods and materials in Northern China.

Tianjin University of Commercece
Tianjin University of Commerce is located on Xianyang Road, Hongqiao District. The university, founded in 1980, has a total area 239,900 sq.m., of which over 120,000 square meters are classrooms.
The university has 10 departments including Enterprise Management, Restaurant Management, Refrigeration Engineering, Food Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Law and Politics, Accounting, Administration Secretary and Mathematics, offering 21 specialities, as well as 4 teaching branches of Foreign Languages, Marxism-Leninism Study, Physical Education and Adult Education.
