Financial Aid:

Eastern Michigan University students who qualify for financial aid may apply it to this program. Appropriate arrangements must be made with the Office of Financial Aid, 403 Pierce Hall. Thanks to financial aid, study abroad is affordable for almost all students, provided that you meet all the eligibility requirements. You can take advantage of a wide array of state, Federal, EMU institutional and private sources of aid. The entire cost of a program, including transportation to and from the program site, tuition, fees and living expenses, is taken into account when financial need is determined. This means that your award will be adjusted according to the actual cost of the study abroad program. The types of aid available to you will vary. Visit the EMU   Financial Aid Website   for an overview.

The Emanuel Fenz Cultural History Tour Scholarship for EMU Students:

The Cultural History Tours were developed by EMU's Dr. Emanuel G. Fenz more than 30 years ago. A scholarship in memory of Dr. Fenz's achievement in education has been made available to provide financial assistance to qualified EMU students participating in a Cultural History Tour or Adventures Abroad program. Visit the Online Fenz Scholarship page. Students may also get forms from the Office of Academic Programs Abroad, 103 Boone Hall.

Estimated Costs Above the Program Fee

Frequently students ask us how much money they will need above the Program Fee of the tour. Based on estimates made by students on previous tours, the extra expenditures, in addition to round-trip airfare and tuition should amount to:

Film and Italian Culture
Meals (based on $25 per day average for two meals-some students may spend more or less) 175
Street Cars/Subways(based on average for Rome, including to/from airport ) 45
Laundry (based on $10 per load, min. one load) 10
Textbooks (approximately) 100
Miscellaneous (bottled water, snacks, toiletries, internet, bank exchange fees, etc.) 200
Totals $ 587

The estimated costs above the program fee are based on a previous participant's budgeted expenses reflecting conservative spending and do not include the purchase of gifts and souvenirs, nor do they include entertainment costs beyond the program offerings. Information on arranging low–cost air transportation to and from Europe will be given to students on acceptance into the program.

Flight Information: Students accepted into this study abroad program will receive ISIC cards and information about finding discount student air travel flights. To preview average roundtrip air costs, visit a search engine such as: http://www.kayak.com/ Students should not purchase a flight until advised to do so by the Office of Academic Programs Abroad
