Program:
The first four days of the course will be on the campus of University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. The focus of the course is-- how information technology has helped transform the economy of Ireland from agriculture to high tech. There will be lectures and site visits during this time at UCC. Some of the topics covered will be: The history of Ireland and the changing Irish economy; The IT industry in Ireland today; How the government, education and business sectors are working together to bring about this change.

After these four days in Cork, the group will travel to the city of Dublin for three days of visiting cultural sites of interest and opportunities to enjoy this vibrant capital city of Ireland. After returning to the U.S. on June 24 each student will be responsible to complete a major project based on their experiences in Ireland. The project will be due by no later than July 24, 2007. |
Faculty Director:
Dr. Boone holds dual citizenship-Ireland and U.S. Since leaving Ireland in 1946 he has returned to his home land numerous times; with his most recent visit in Nov, 2006. He has personally witnessed the dramatic changes that have taken place both culturally and economically. He has given presentations on learning resources and technologies at a major Irish I.T. conference and three Irish Universities, including UCC.
His colleagues at one of the leading Irish Universities, University College Cork, who are national and international experts, will provide a first hand look at these changes.
The course is designed to meet the needs of both EMU undergraduate and graduate students (with a differentiated final project) from various disciplines: technology, economics, political science, business and education.
