Karlsruhe, with a population of 270,000, is a cultural and commercial center of Germany. Due to its central location in the European Union, Karlsruhe is regarded as the "focal point of international transport and energy routes." The city has also grown to become a major technology center. These factors make it an ideal location for the University of Applied Sciences with its focus on business and technology. But business and technology are not all that Karlsruhe offers. Karlsruhe has many cultural offerings: the castle and its gardens, the Baden State Theater and eight other theaters, entertainment and sports venues and numerous museums and shops. Located in southwest Germany near the border of France, Karlsruhe is not far from other major German and European cities. Stuttgart, Heidelberg and Frankfurt are about an hour away by train, while Munich, Cologne and Zurich are only about three hours away.
The University
The University attends to its students' personal growth as well as their academic needs. Through the student union, students at the University can find sports groups, clubs and entertainment events to complement their academic life.
Daily Life International students at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences stay in the university residence hall on the campus of the university. In the residence halls students have single rooms, but share a bathroom and kitchen with several other students. Although there is no meal plan, the university cafeteria offers low cost lunches during the week. The compact campus is only about ten minutes from the city center where students can go for all of their shopping and entertainment needs.
