Program Overview:


Earn three credits in Economics 179 or Economics 379* (for those with prior economics credit) or HNRS 170 Global Awareness Economics (Honors College credit ) on this study abroad program in Moscow and "The Golden Ring". Visit Vladamir and Suzdal, as well as Pereslavl, Russia. Lodging will be in the dormitory of the Academy of Labor in Moscow, double occupancy, with meals included. The program includes meet and greet sessions between trip participants and students of the Academy living in the dormitory.

Lectures in Moscow will enable students to understand the complex economic structures of post-cold war Russia. The study portion of the trip will be in the form of lectures at the Academy of Labor by English speaking instructors, or on occasion, by Russian speakers whose remarks will be translated by professional translators. Topics will range from understanding Russian culture and social structure, to looking at the evolving Russian economy, to looking at some Soviet economic history, to the educational system. Students will be asked to keep a journal and to write an overview paper of their experience and learning upon return.

The program will tour Moscow and "Golden Ring" in order to provide experiential learning of Russia's cultural climate and the historical context of Russian economic development. There will be a visit to the Moscow Circus, world-class museums, and the historically important, culturally-rich and beautiful cities of the "Golden Ring".

Academics: 3 credits Global Awareness Economics 100/ Economics. Students choose from one three credit hour course in either Economics or Global Awareness. The Global Awareness course will offer an opportunity for students to earn 3 credits in Global Awareness that fulfils the General Education requirement.


Program fee: $ 2000*

*Does not include round-trip air fare or EMU tuition and fees. Our program fees are based on currency exchange rates in effect at the time of budget planning. Further weakening of the U.S. Dollar against world currencies may require a surcharge to cover unexpected costs resulting from unfavorable exchange rates. We will do everything possible to limit program costs as we monitor economic conditions beyond our control.
