Film and Italian Culture
July 5 - July 12, 2010
The Film and Italian Culture program integrates experiential learning in the culture with traditional coursework and class sessions to provide a deeper and richer understanding of content.
Students in the Film and Italian Culture program benefit from lectures and site visits with professors of Art, and History in a unique interdisciplinary learning environment in Rome.
Professor Henry Aldridge will teach Film and Italian Culture. Students will be enrolled in CTAT 379 for three credits. This special low-cost tour is designed expressly for EMU students.

Mexico: The Route of Cortez April 24 - May 1, 2010
Follow the route of Cortez through southern and central Mexico. Students travel and learn about Mexican cultures and globalization while experiencing a wide range of settings: from tropical coasts to semi-arid highlands, from rural fishing and agricultural villages to one of the largest cities in the world, and from the most ancient civilizations to the modern.

El Salvador: Poverty, Human Rights, and Health
July 16-July 30, 2010
The study abroad program consists of 15 full days in El Salvador, including home stays and visits to rural villages. Local arrangements are organized by the SHARE Foundation, a grassroots non-profit dedicated to promoting understanding of the root causes of poverty and community organizing to address underlying issues of social injustice.
Earn three credits in PLSC 391 ( 3 credits), Pre-requisite: PLSC 390 (Poverty, Human Rights, and Health) taken as an on-campus course in Summer 2009 (3 credits). This field study program is the second part of a 2-course sequence in Political Science.

Culture History and Archaeology
in Post-Communist Albania
Summer, 2010
Students can be a part of historic developments in Albania with guided culture history tours between Tirana (the nation’s capital) and the southern city of Gjirokastra, which itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Students will have museum tours and lectures, visit archaeological sites (of the Illyrian-Hellenic, Illyrian-Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman periods), learn about the nation’s unique Bektashi Islamic order, and learn about the transition from communism from members of the generation experiencing it first-hand. Students will also learn the basics of archaeological fieldwork as they join Albanian students in one week of excavations at an Illyrian Roman period site while staying in Gjirokastra.

On this 18-day intensive field course we will focus on the ecology, evolution and conservation of the Ecuadorian rainforest and Galápagos Islands. Children's Literature in Oxford
Students in the Children’s Literature Studies program at Eastern Michigan University will read the work of three major British fantasy writers—Carroll, Pullman, and Lewis. The Social Impact of Technology in Italy
May 29 –June 13, 2009
Study the social impact of technology at Pompeii, Herculaneum, and other National Historic Sites impacted by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. near Naples, Italy. Go back in time to explore the roots of Roman culture by visiting Greek, Arabic, and Roman sites in Sicily. This two-week interdisciplinary experience will examine the relationship between culture and technology evidenced in ancient transportation, industry, water and power, architecture, and various domestic technologies.
