May 25 to July 21, 2008
Travel with experienced faculty and visit Shanghai, Beijing, Luoyang, Xian, Changsha, Yangshuo, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Hue, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Ko Samet,and Bangkok.
The China-Vietnam-Thailand Cultural History Tour is a 56 day
tour that begins in Shanghai and ends in Bangkok. It is a completely
unique approach to university study abroad, integrating intense academic
study of major cultural
and historical sites in China, Vietnam, and Thailand with interdisciplinary lectures in multiple academic disciplines. Six-twelve EMU credits available in History, Political Science, Religion and Art.

Vietnam-Thailand Cultural History Tour
June 20 to July 21, 2008
Travel with experienced faculty and visit Hong Kong, Hanoi, Hue, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Ko Samet, and Bangkok.
The Vietnam-Thailand Cultural History Tour is a 30 day tour that begins in Hong Kongi and ends in Bangkok. It is a completely unique approach to university study abroad. It combines a tour of major cultural and historical sites in China with intense academic study in Vietnam and Thailand. Three to six EMU credits available in History, Political Science and Religion.

70 days, and the experience of a lifetime! England, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Greece. Earn twelve hours of college credit in the humanities and social sciences in an interdisciplinary program that visits major cities and small towns in both Western Europe and the Mediterranean.

Film and Italian Culture
July 9 - July 16, 2008
The Film and Italian Culture program integrates experiential learning in the culture with traditional coursework and class sessions to provide a deeper and richer understanding of content.
Students in the Film and Italian Culture program benefit from lectures and site visits with professors of Art, and History in a unique interdisciplinary learning environment in Rome.
Professor Henry Aldridge will teach Film and Italian Culture. Students may enroll in either CTAT 179 or CTAT 379 for three credits. This special low-cost tour is designed expressly for EMU students.

International Business Short Course Abroad in Tianjin, China
May 11-May 25 , 2008
Earn three credits in International Business, while engaging in culturally-rich experiential learning. This program fulfils the study abroad requirement for the International Business degree. Tianjin is located in the northeast of the North China Plain and is the closest seaport to Beijing. Tianjin University, in partnership with EMU faculty provide instruction, field trips and excursions.

El Salvador:
Poverty, Human Rights, and Health
August 13-22 , 2008
Earn three credits in PLSC/HLAD 391 (an additional 3 credits). Pre-requisite: PLSC/HLAD 390 (Poverty, Human Rights, and Health) taken as an on-campus course in Summer 2008 (3 credits). This field study program is the second part of a 2-course interdisciplinary sequence in Political Science and Health Administration.
The study abroad program consists of 8 full days in El Salvador, including home stays and visits to rural villages. Local arrangements are organized by the SHARE Foundation, a grassroots non-profit dedicated to promoting understanding of the root causes of poverty and community organizing to address underlying issues of social injustice.

Russia Study Program

Earn three credits in Global Awareness Economics or Economics (Honors College credit available) on this study abroad program in Russia. Lodging will be in the dormitory of the Academy of Labor in Moscow, double occupancy, with meals included. Topics will range from understanding Russian culture and social structure, to looking at the evolving Russian economy, to looking at some Soviet economic history, to the educational system.
The program will tour Moscow monuments, museums and theaters in order to provide experiential learning of Russia's cultural climate, economic developments and the historical context. There will be a visit to the Moscow Circus, world-class museums, and the historically important, culturally-rich and beautiful cities of Vladimir and Suzdal in Russia's Golden Ring.

Learn how European artistic and philosophical movements influenced American writers, including those involved in the Harlem Renaissance and Civil Rights Movements. Live in beautiful Metz in eastern France, three hours from Paris, while earning six credit hours: three credits in International Business and three credits in French Language and Culture (FRNH 279). Classes alternate with visits to companies, governmental organizations and historical sites.

Earn three graduate credits in Literature 592 or three credits in Literature 479 (for seniors) on this Summer Break tour. You will stay in central London, England, and a day in Stratford. This class is designed as an intensive study-abroad seminar for high-school English teachers who teach Shakespeare, or for students who plan to teach his plays.

Earn three credits in Literature 312 on this field study of Arthurian Literature in Britain. Study medieval literature, with a particular focus on the various genres and authors associated with the British Arthurian tradition.
Program visits the famous “Arthurian” sites of Somerset and Glastonbury, explores Tintagel and the fabled land of Lyonesse on the Cornish coast, and examine Arthur’s roots in Wales.
Since this course will end in London, Tennyson’s Idylls will allow us to consider the legacy of Arthur in the self-conceptualization of English nationhood and imperialism.

Students in the Children’s Literature Studies program at Eastern Michigan University will read the work of three major British fantasy writers—Carroll, Pullman, and Lewis. Coming in 2009: Art in Paris
Study the art and culture of one of the world's most fascinating and beautiful cities. Stay in central Paris, near the city's heart. The program itinerary includes visits to the Louvre, Notre Dame, St. Denis, Pere Lachaise, and outside Paris to Versailles with program leaders Richard Rubenfeld and Tom Venner. Paris, one of the oldest cities in western Europe, is considered to be the art capital of the world. Coursework in Studio Art and Art History is offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
