David Victor Appointed to Editorial Board for the Business Communication Research and Practice Journal

Congratulations to David Victor, Professor of Management and International Business, on his recent appointment to the editorial review board of the Business Communication Research and Practice Journal (BCRP). Founded in 2011, this double-blind refereed journal is published by the Korean Association for Business Communication.  BCRP publishes peer-reviewed articles in English in order to expand its readership globally and its commitment to the development of business communication.  The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, case reports, tutorials, editorials, and communications to contribute to knowledge and theory of business communication as a distinct, multifaceted field approached through the administrative disciplines, the liberal arts, and the social sciences.

New Patent Awarded to Eastern Faculty Vijay Mannari

Please join us in congratulating Vijay Mannari, Professor of Polymers & Coatings, on his recent U.S. Patent, “Corrosion-resistant Coatings and Methods Using Polyureasil Precursors."  We celebrate Dr. Mannari’s accomplishment and wish him continued success in his research.

Sean Woolf Wins NASPA's Outstanding New Professional Award

Sean Woolf, Interim Associate Director of Wellness and Community Responsibility, has been selected as the NASPA Regional Outstanding New Professional Award recipient for Region IV-East.  NASPA is a leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession through high-quality professional development, advocacy, and research for 15,000 members in all 50 states, 25 countries, and 8 U.S. territories. As a recipient of this award, Sean will be recognized during the Annual Awards Luncheon at the 2018 NASPA National Conference.  We are grateful for the phenomenal work Sean does daily in service to our students and congratulate him on this recognition for his achievements in the field of Student Affairs.

February is Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements and legacy of all African and African-descended people.  Please consider participating in one of the many events scheduled throughout this month to honor and recognize those who whose contributions have shaped U.S. history.

Call for Presenters: Inaugural Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity Showcase

The Office of Graduate Studies and Research is hosting an inaugural event, the Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity Showcase, on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in the Halle Library Carillion Room. The faculty research showcase and strolling reception will celebrate faculty and their recently disseminated research, scholarly, and creative activities and will be hosted in conjunction with the George Liepa Sigma Xi Lecture later that evening.

We invite all tenured and tenure-track faculty to display posters, books, artwork, videos or compact discs (CD) of performing art, etc., that highlight scholarly/creative activities that were disseminated during the 2017 calendar year. If you would like to participate in this inaugural event, please submit your information using this form by February 15, 2018. Eastern hosts Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls Conference

The Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (GLACURH) is a student-run organization working to promote and improve student life on college and university campuses across the region, including Michigan, Ontario, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.  This group is primarily focused on providing quality programming and activities for on-campus residents that will make their college experience a positive one. 

GLACURH sponsors two conferences per year.  Eastern Michigan will host the Regional Business Conference March 9-11, 2018.  Attendance is anticipated to be over 150 delegates.  Activities will be held on-campus at McKenny Hall.  For more information, check out the website: http://glacurhrbc.com

Paulien & Associates Continues Work on Space Planning

In an effort to assist the University in long-term facilities planning, Eastern has hired Paulien & Associates – a Denver based consulting firm that specializes in space planning for higher education. The project includes evaluation and recommendations for campus space including best practices surrounding instructional space utilization, groupings, and the types and amounts of space needed. The project will provide the University with information to support long-term planning and decision making regarding facilities and program development.  They will be visiting and mapping campus spaces as well as holding discussions over the coming months related to their study.

Reminder: President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion Seeks Input

The President's Commission on Diversity and Inclusion has issued its  Preliminary Recommendations   Report and is seeking input and feedback from the University and Community before finalizing the Recommendations.  Please take a moment and provide your feedback via an  online survey  by February 18, 2018.  Additional information on our diversity and inclusion efforts may be found on the website for the  President's Commission on Diversity and Inclusion.
