Wednesday Briefing for April 26

The Provost's Wednesday Briefing is a complement to the Provost's Update, intended to be a quick update on achievements and opportunities in Academic and Student Affairs. 2016 EMU-FT Full-Time Lecturers' Outstanding Teaching Award - Now Accepting Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 EMU-FT Full-Time Lecturers Outstanding Teaching Award; visit the awards web page for more information. Eastern Michigan University academic administrators, faculty, full-time lecturers and/or any three students may nominate a full-time lecturer for this award, individually or as a group. Full-time lecturers may also nominate themselves.

Nomination materials must be uploaded to the online nomination site by the end of the day on May 19, 2017. For questions, contact Anthony Kurek.

Board of Regents Meeting on April 20–21

At the Educational Policies Committee meeting on April 20, Provost Longworth provided remarks highlighting some areas of focus in Academic and Student Affairs. A news release has been issued with a summary of more actions presented to the Board, and links to Board documents. The next Board of Regents' meeting is scheduled for June 27, 2017.

EMU Faculty Highlight the Importance of Science in WEM/NPR Interview

Congratulations to Dr. Amy Flanagan Johnson (Chemistry) and Dr. Katherine Ryker (Geography and Geology) for their interview supporting, among other things, the importance of science, funding, and the role of women in STEM fields.

Staffing Update - Julie Berger, Academic Collective Bargaining Administrator, Academic Human Resources

The Office of Academic Human Resources, under Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs David Woike, announces the appointment of Julie Berger as its new Contract Administrator, effective April 24, 2017. Julie joins the AHR staff after serving the EMU-AAUP in the same capacity from 2005 until March of this year. Prior to that appointment, Julie served as a secretary in the Department of History and Philosophy at EMU from 2003 until 2005.

Julie brings a wealth of background knowledge and experience in contract administration, negotiations, and labor relations to her new role, and joins our current Academic Human Resources staff, which includes Mary Linblade, Associate Director, Candice Hunter, Consultant, and Pat Henry, Generalist. Please welcome Julie Berger to her new role!

Traffic Flow Direction Reversal on West Circle Drive May 1–July 10

Starting July 10, there will be modifications to the traffic and pedestrian patterns on West Circle Drive, resulting from the Central Heating Plant project. West Circle Drive traffic flow will reverse direction and will exit on to Oakwood Street from Structure Drive. Anthony Duty (743.487.1000) is the project contact person for the Physical Plant.

Planned Outages in the Marshall Building

April 26, 7 a.m.–noon: This maintenance will cause a wired network service outage for the entirety of Marshall 1st floor, and may also affect some wired data connectivity on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The wireless network service will also be affected across all floors during the window.

April 28, 7 a.m.–noon: This maintenance will cause a wired network service outage for the entirety of Marshall 2nd and 3rd floor, and may also affect some wired data connectivity on the 1st floor. The wireless network service will also be affected across all floors during the window.

While IT has reserved five hours for these outages, network service may be restored much sooner if all work goes to plan. The IT system outage page will be updated when work is complete. If you have any network connectivity issues after the outage window, please check the outage page and if it indicates that the work is complete, please call the IT Help Deskat 734.487.2120 for further assistance. We appreciate your patience during this important and required system outage.
