Department of Public Safety Officers will be on hand to direct traffic until roughly 1 p.m. 

President's Commission On Diversity And Inclusion Issues Statement

The Eastern Michigan University President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion has issued a statement on recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia, which can be read in this news release. The Commission's charge is to, among other priorities, provide recommendations to undertake systematic campus climate studies, including a study on the campus racial climate, and provide input and make specific recommendations to the President and campus community about  how to provide a more inclusive culture. We wanted to highlight this statement for your review.

Jewish Studies Newsletter

The most recent Jewish Studies Newsletter [PDF] includes reflection on the EMU Center for Jewish Studies' mission, in light of recent racist events such as those in Charlottesville, Virginia. Other items include speaker series, alumni news, and community opportunities.

Move-In Ambassadors

EMU Housing & Residence Life would like to invite all faculty and staff to join us on Friday, September 1, from 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., to be Move-In Ambassadors. Each year, our faculty and staff volunteers play a critical role as welcoming first contact to many first-year students and their families. Faculty "Life in the Classroom” Facilitators

This faculty-led First Four New Student Orientation session takes place Saturday, September 2, with sessions from 2:15 - 3:15 p.m., and from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m., with a pre-brief session from 1:30 - 2 p.m. Optional lunch will be provided at 12:30 p.m. This is a very easy, turn-key operation with talking points, and handouts provided. Welcome Tents Volunteers

Welcome students back to campus by volunteering at one of Campus Life's welcome tents on the first two days of classes. We would love your assistance in answering questions, giving directions and handing out information to tent passersby. Wednesday, Sept. 6 & Thursday, Sept. 7, there are two-hour shifts scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on both days. Please sign up for a shift via this on-line form. EMU International Student Banners Featured in Inside Higher Education Article

Read this article to find out more about the 108 lightpost  banners around the university and city, recognizing international students and including the hashtag “#YouAreWelcomeHere,” our response to a national campaign by that name to communicate American universities’ openness to international students. Kudos to the Division of Communications for this beautifully conceived and executed campaign.

Student Support Offices' Open House - September 21

The Disability Resource Center, Office of the Ombuds, and the Office of Student Conduct, Community Standards and Wellness, are hosting an Open House on Thursday, September 21st, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please consider stopping by to learn about the exciting changes that have taken place within these offices and get a preview of additional improvements to look for in the coming year. This year marks a re-launch to the Global Learning Seminar, with a focus on a pedagogical approach to integrating global learning across the curriculum. Seminar co-facilitators will collaborate with a small group of EMU faculty during the fall 2017 and winter 2018 semesters. All interested faculty are encouraged to apply for this important initiative in support of this international endeavor at EMU. Ongoing Updates

Classroom Technology (Updated 8/29)

TEL Systems has completed installation of the classroom technology in the Boone, Briggs, Ford, Halle, Honors College, McKenny, Quirk, Sculpture Studio,  Sherzer , Sill and Warner classrooms. Faculty teaching in these rooms are encouraged to check out  this page for a quick instructional video and link to an instructional document. Additionally, members of the IT Desktop and Classroom Technology team have been testing the classroom AV equipment in all of the academic buildings to prepare for the upcoming semester. Also this week, TEL Systems is finalizing the installation of the equipment in Pray-Harrold and Mark Jefferson auditoriums.
