ASD children are taught music during summer 2011 S.P.L.A.S.H!

S.P.L.A.S.H! (Sensory. Play & Music. Language. Art. Social Learning. Healthy Fun!)

S.P.L.A.S.H! is a collaborative summer program for children ages 3-14 diagnosed with ASD offered by the ACC-EMU and Judson Center-Washtenaw. Designed and supervised by our multi-disciplinary team, S.P.L.A.S.H! days will be filled with socially engaging, sensory-rich, age-appropriate and creative small group recreation opportunities among peers of similar ages and abilities. All levels are welcome, special diets are honored and our staff of trained EMU students and graduates are eager to provide hands-on support needed to ensure your child's success! Overall staff-to-child ratio will be approximately 1:3, with variations based on level of need and to promote functional independence.

Intakes at ACC

The intake process provides the family and ACC with the opportunity to get to know each other better.

  1. Make a 1/2 hour phone or in-person initial appointment with an intake assistant at no charge to go over basic information, hear about our options and see if you'd like to proceed with a full intake at ACC.
  2. Focused Intakes are for clients that already have already obtained a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum (Aspergers, HFA, PDD-NOS, Autistic Disorder) or Global Developmental Delay (GDD) with suspected Autism for those under 5 years of age. Focused intakes use the CARS (Childhood Autism Rating Scale) system to re-confirm diagnosis. Appointments are available during business and extended hours as necessary. Plan for about 2 hours.

Comprehensive Diagnostics

Comprehensive Intakes will include diagnostics and expertise necessary to confirm ASD. The ADOS and ADI-R, as well as other standard cognitive, sensory, language and social- emotional profile information will be collected by our interdisciplinary team, including medical coordination from a licensed nurse practitioner, and a full report will be provided to the client. Two appointments are required for comprehensive intake: An evaluation day and a reporting/discussion day. Each appointment can take 2-3 hours.

"This is a place where we can come and not feel 'judged'.
My son feels welcome and it's such a relief to find this
sense of community...thank you for caring about families."

Person-Centered Plans at the ACC

The family planning process provides an opportunity for the ACC to review the information gathered during the Intakes and to individualize effective and supportive programs.

Person-Centered Planning / Family Plans are important in considering the strengths and interests of individuals with Autism and identifying resources within families and communities to improve quality of life. A person-centered plan can help drive planning across a lifetime and focus on priorities and functional goals for an individual.
