I had the pleasure of working with Don in Access Services. Don was a man with great knowledge and compassion. He was in every sense of the word a true advocate. He helped me personally to grow in understanding and awareness that we all have our personal limitations--we all strive day-to-day to overcome obstacles in our way. Don was a good man with a great sense of humor and he will be greatly missed!

Don worked with me, staff and students at Counseling Services for many years. His wise counsel, deep knowledge, even temperament and skillful problem solving were so helpful to all of us. I especially appreciated what seemed like his eternal optimism that made him a role model. He is missed greatly.

I only met Don once but I was so impressed by how helpful and kind he was. He helped arrange for my family to use Roosevelt auditorium for a fund raising concert in support of adolescent substance abuse programs. We literally could not have done it without him. Thanks Don, we miss you already.

Don gave a speech to all of us in the Supplemental Instruction program about how to better work with students with disabilities. My mom is paralyzed, and I have seen first hand how hard it can be. I admire the strength Don had to live his life to the fullest. I was very sad when I heard he had passed away. God bless you Don.

Don was a very good man and I already miss him. He had a great way in advocating for the rights of the differently abled while still realizing the financial limitations on EMU as we become better every year with access issues. He was always quick to call back about student concerns or come over to the residence halls or apartments and check out situations for himself and work with our staff. This included trips in the most horrid of weather. I know he loved all students and loved this place and we will all miss him and his many contributions. On two recent occasions, the last just a few weeks before he died, Don shared his vast knowledge about people with disabilities with my Human Diversity and Social Justice classes. With his passion for social justice and his characteristic good humor, he made a great contribution to our understanding of people with disabilities. I will remember him fondly as a very humane colleague with a special talent as an educator.

I only met Don once, but I still remember it. When I was a freshman, on my first day of classes, I couldn't find Sill Hall anywhere. I was standing in front of the map as I just became later and later for my class. Don came up to me and asked where I needed to go. He took me all the way across campus to Sill Hall, talking to me the whole time, telling me I shouldn't be stressed, that the first day of class is hard for everyone. He was a very caring man who went out of his way to make the lives of everyone around him better. My condolences to his family, he will be greatly missed.

Though I have not been a member of the EMU community for long, Don made me comfortable from my first week on campus. We attended a senior administators meeting together in Welch and then returned to the Student Center together. He took a genuine interest in me and I will always remember the walk we took.

I was deeply saddened to learn of our loss of Don Anderson. He was of great help to me in educating our doctoral students in clinical psychology about the issues faced by students (and others) with disabilities. Several times, he spoke to my classes, and very often, we consulted with him individually. Don was a very warm, caring, genuine, and approachable person who will be greatly missed.

I had the honor of attending the ICCI Conference here on campus with Don in 2006. We were team members in many discussion groups. I like so many others, found appreciation in his committment to our students and his uncanny sense of humor. We have suffered a great loss here at EMU, and he will be sorely missed.
