Graduate Priority Admission Deadlines

Degree programs, Certificate programs, and Re-enrollment

Some programs (doctoral programs, for example) have an earlier deadline than those listed below. We strongly encourage you to consult program information in the Graduate Catalog or by contacting the academic department to which you are applying.

Domestic students should apply by:

  • June 15 for programs beginning in Fall
  • October 15 for programs beginning in Winter
  • April 1 for programs beginning in Summer

Non-degree seeking domestic students should apply by:

  • August 1 for programs beginning in Fall
  • December 1 for programs beginning in Winter
  • April 1 for programs beginning in Summer

International students* should apply by:

  • February 15 for programs beginning in Fall
  • October 1 or earlier for programs beginning in Winter
  • March 1 for programs beginning in Summer

Non-degree seeking international students* should apply by:

  • May 1 for programs beginning in Fall
  • October 8 for programs beginning in Winter
  • March 1 for programs beginning in Summer

* Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or who have transcripts from outside the United States are subject to the deadlines for international students. International applicants who need an I-20 should apply as early as possible.

Graduate Priority Financial Aid Deadlines

Students whose completed FAFSA information is sent to EMU are automatically considered for federal financial aid. In addition, the EMU Graduate School facilitates graduate assistantships, fellowships and scholarship opportunities for students.

Graduate Assistantship Priority Deadlines

There are no official deadlines for becoming a Graduate Assistant (GA), as openings are available until filled. However, most positions are filled for fall and winter semesters by applicants who have been admitted to the university and applied for a GA position by February 15. Check with your academic department/school or program regarding any deadlines they may have.

* For consideration for EMU Graduate School scholarships and fellowships, you must be admitted to EMU and have submitted your Financial Assistance Application for Graduate Students form.
