International Admissions

I-20 Handling Policy

Admitted students have the option to purchase express shipping through University Express Mail Services (UEMS) eShipGlobal or to arrange for their I-20 to be picked up directly from our office.

Admitted international students choosing the eShipGlobal service may follow the directions below to arrange shipment.

Eastern Michigan University offers you the opportunity to receive or ship your documents through a safe, quick and dependable delivery service.  We use an express mailing service that will allow you to receive the documents through DHL, FedEx, or UPS in three to five days. Requesting your documents through express mail is at your expense, and your credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover cards only) will be charged upon requesting the service. To request express mailing of your documents, go to the University Express Mail Services website. 

You must use the University Express Mail Services website –  do not  go through the DHL, FedEx, or the UPS website directly. All communication will go through the UEMS eShipGlobal service, who will notify us by e-mail that you are requesting your documents to be sent by express mail. 

If you use this service, you will be required to create your own user account. To request a shipment, you will need your EMU student ID (E00000000) which is included in your admission email, mailing address, e-mail address, phone number and credit card information. You may request a shipment either to your foreign address, or to a U.S. contact address. If your documents will be sent to a U.S. contact address, please include the name of the person at that address and notify the International Admissions Office by email at international.admissions@emich.edu. Pay close attention to the information submitted if any errors in the credit card information or submitting incorrect or incomplete address information will result in a delay in the mailing of your documents.

Instructions for receiving your I-20 from Eastern Michigan University:

  1. Register and activate your account at University Express Mail Services. Registration and activation of your account is free.
  2. Click the “Receive” option.
  3. Type “Eastern Michigan University” in the search box, or select it from the drop down list.
  4. Select “Eastern Michigan University” and then "Continue."
  5. Select the specific university department “Office of International Admissions” and then "Continue."
  6. Complete the shipping form, using your student ID (E00000000), and select "Ship/Quote."

Note:  PO Box addresses are generally not preferred by express carriers. If entering a PO Box address, be sure you provide the complete physical address where the PO Box is located in order to avoid delays or failed shipment.

  1. On the confirmation page, check your shipment details.
  2. On the same page, complete the credit card information form.
  3. Select "Confirm" to advance to the shipment summary page.
  4. Eastern Michigan University will automatically be notified by University Express Mail Services (eShipGlobal) that you have requested your documents via express mail. You can track the shipment using the tracking number provided.
  5. Receive your documents in 3-5 business days from the date of mailing.
