First-Year Students
High School Dual Enrollment
Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and who have completed 4 semesters of high school are eligible for dual enrollment at EMU.
Dual enrollment allows a student to take college-level classes while still in high school. These credits will become part of the student's college transcript and can often be used to meet high school graduation requirements.
To apply to be accepted as a dual enrolled student:
- Complete the undergraduate application and check the dual enroll box
- Pay the application fee
- Forward a letter from your parents indicating that they support your application for dual enrollment
- Forward a letter from a guidance counselor from the school you are currently attending indicating that they support your application for dual enrollment.
- Allow 2-4 weeks for processing from the time the last of your required documents is submitted to receive an admission decision by phone and/or mail.
Students applying to be dual enrolled are financially responsible for the classes for which they enroll and all applicable university fees. The costs for some dual enrolled students are sometimes reimbursed by the school district. This happens in cases where the student has completed all available courses in a subject area that are offered by the district and the students wants to continue in that subject area. This most commonly occurs with foreign language and math courses.
Once you have been admitted as a dual enrolled student, your next steps are to:
- Schedule an advising appointment with the director of the University Advising center to register for classes. Call 734.487.2171 for an appointment.
- Work with your school counselor or district office to determine whether the district will reimburse your student for tuition and/or fees.
Ask a real question like:
When can I apply for admission?
