Graduate Certification
All graduate students who are interested in working in the nonprofit sector, who already have some or intensive nonprofit experience, or are simply interested in learning more about the nonprofit sector, are encouraged to enroll in the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance program in order to receive the nationally recognized NLA certificate.
To recieve the certificate, graduate students are required to:eive the certificate, graduate students 1. Complete the 17 NLA competencies
2. Complete 300 hours of internship with an nonprofit organization
3. Attend the Management Institute or an equivalent conference
To complete the competencies: graduate students can learn about the 17 competencies in a structured way through programs such as:
* The Graduate Nonprofit Management Certificate
* The Nonprofit Administration concentration within the Master in Public Administration program
* The Nonprofit Management concentration within the Master in Business Administration program
Graduate students can also complete the competencies by doing the portfolio option, a more independent and less structured way, by taking elective courses selected from the courses offered within the graduate programs listed above. Other options, such as attending workshops, presentations are also available.
To complete the 300 hours internship: students will indentify independently, or in collaboration with the NLA program’s office, a nonprofit agency to work with. The internship can be completed in any semester.
Attendance of the Management Institute: all students enrolled in the NLA program have to attend the Management Institute or a nonprofit professional conference, such as the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA). Students need to consult with the NLA program director if they plan on attending a professional conference instead of the Management Institute.
