National Capital Area Alumni Chapter rallies around the EMU Marching Band

by Ellen Weaver, Published July 20, 2011

There is one part of football season that is beloved no matter what colors you wear with pride. It's the part that is pure, loud spirit and rocks the stadium in a different kind of uniform. The band is always there to get you pumped up for a game; that is their job and they take it to heart. Game-goers are always entertained, engaged and ready to cheer. Now it is time to give the band something to cheer about.

Did you know that EMU band members are wearing uniforms that were only new in the mid 1990's? Since then they have been stained, torn, ripped, sweated in and marched nearly to pieces. Any given jacket is missing a button or nursing an unraveled lining from countless dry-cleaning and marching sessions. The current owner may look great from far away, but the view up close is far from appealing.

On August 11, the fundraising campaign to keep our band members marching in style is coming to Washington, D.C. for a special kind of rally. The National Capital Area Alumni Chapter presents "RALLY AROUND THE BAND." EMU alum and featured trumpet soloist Woodrow English and the E&ME Jazz/R &B band will be there along with food, fun and all things EMU. All proceeds will benefit the EMU Marching Band Fundraising Campaign. The best part is, if you support the band you will see the results of your donation marching out on the field. Join your fellow band supporters at:
