My name is Kara Miciek and I am a proud Alumni Legacy Scholarship recipient. I am an honor student pursuing a Business degree and working in the Woman's and Gender Studies department at Eastern.
This year, I have really participated in the campus community, even while commuting from Brighton, MI. I'm an active member of the "Pride of the Peninsula" marching band, playing the clarinet. We have traveled to Penn State and Toledo Ohio, performed as guests at a high school marching competition, met with many different high school bands, and preformed at a total of five home games at Rynearson Stadium. I am planning on joining the sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma, and I will be initiated this month. I will get to be a part of greek life which I so badly wanted to do. With the sorority, I can take part in community service and can help the Ypsilanti community. I have even swing danced at a few events on campus and have gone to the Rec many times. I am even looking forward to become a team member of the women's water polo team this winter.
This campus has so much to offer and I am grateful to be a part of it. In just a few months, I've met so many new people and learned so much. I now see that college is a whole different world and the Alumni Legacy scholarship helped me to succeed in it; giving me the assistance I needed to do all the things I wanted to during my first year of college. I can't thank the donors enough who helped me reach for my dreams. It means so much to me, opening up new doors and providing new experiences. I wouldn't trade them for anything. The friendships and stories will be with me forever.
Both my mother and father went to Eastern to pursue Business degrees, as well as their MBA's. They were a big influence for choosing Eastern especially because they both loved life here and thought this school really prepared them for their future careers. My mother was an Office Manager for a subsidiary of Chrysler Corporation. When Chrysler made the decision to sell the company, she applied to be hired directly by Chrysler. She was also a Project Manager for a Commercial Real Estate Firm, an Office Manager for a large Corporate Accounting Firm, and an Office Manager for a furniture business. My father works as a purchaser for Daifuku Webb Holding Company currently as one of the managers of the firm. I really look up to my parents, especially my mother who is my inspiration in life. I am proud to be an Eastern Legacy.
