The EMU Archaeology Field School provides students with the opportunity to earn course credits and hands-on experience in archaeological field and lab research. Each morning, students meet at the archaeology lab and go to the project area at nearby Lower Huron Metropark. During the day, students learn survey methods to identify prehistoric and historic sites and excavation techniques to address questions on when sites were occupied, what cultures created them, and what activities took place at the sites. At the end of each day, students work with the artifacts in the anthropology lab. The results of the field school will be used to improve our understanding of the culture history of the Huron River Valley. The field school also provides a public service to the Huron-Clinton Metroparks.
