SAC Student Group
Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology Student Association (SACSA) is an all inclusive student group. It serves to enrich the education and curriculum of students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are majoring or are interested in Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology. The overall goals of SACSA are first, to establish an on-campus community of individuals who have an interest in Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology. Second, we seek to promote and encourage knowledge, awareness and research within the department.
Even though we are relatively small and new, we've put on several successful activities.
We have sponsored the brown bag lectures of Dr. Ajrouch, who spoke of her experiences in Lebanon over the summer of 2006, Carrie Buist and Chad Powell, who spoke of their experiences in public presentation at a national criminology conference, Dr. Gregg Barak, who spoke of his views on the motivations of terrorism, and Dr. Marisa Ensor, who will speak on human rights violations in the wake of hurricane Katrina. The goal of SACSA is to sponsor one brown bag talk every month, so stay informed for upcoming speakers.
From a strictly sociological standpoint, we had an official outing to go see the movie Borat
We have attended a tour of the Washtenaw County Jail, as well as attended the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation’s Three Fires Midewiwin Winter Ceremonies
Also, to conclude the 2006 holiday season, we successfully raised about $300 in student donations that we gave to Safe House - a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
