Artist Statement:

In my work, the form of the portrait often serves as a starting point for inquiries into concepts of self, recognition, identity, memory, pain, and death.  In my most recent body of work I have attempted to expand upon the traditional framework of the portrait by combining classical forms with non-art images and references. My hope is that the varying degrees of comprehension associated with these different types of images might more holistically define the individual portrayed while simultaneously catapulting it, and the genre of the portrait as a whole, into the arena of the strange staring objects they truly are.
