Artist Statement: A key characteristic of my of my work is the straightforward figure/ground relationship. The background, originally influenced by Etruscan and Proto-Renaissance wall paintings, now acts much like a chalkboard. A variety of systems and signs are developed in the background to support the subject and figures. Typically, the text draws from the sciences and coexists with the more mythical images. I am intrigued by how these various visual codes intertwine and overlap, and their geometric connection to the rectangle. Content is the driving force for why I make images. Ideas behind the work are inspired by many sources. Faculty Work: Student Work: Click on any of the links to the right of a faculty member's name to get more information about that faculty member.
