Dr. Vesta Daniel, Professor of Art Education at The Ohio State University, gave a talk titled “Community-Based Art Education as an Intricate Act: For the People, By the People” on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 6:30pm to 8:00 p.m. in the EMU Halle Library Auditorium. In 2007 Dr. Daniel received The Ohio State University’s Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship honoring her outstanding work to bridge the university and the community over the last 20 years. Dr. Daniel's talk was inspirational and insightful; it served as a catalyst for further conversations on art and community. |

Dr.
Steve Carpenter, Associate Professor of Art Education and Visual
Culture at Texas A&M,
gave a talk titled “Mapping and Meaning
Making: Living and Learning in the Studio, Classroom and the World" on
Monday, April 3, 2006 from 6:30pm to 8:00 p.m. in the Halle Library
Auditorium. Dr. Carpenter, who is the current editor of Art
Education journal,
also visited three Art Department methods
classes
(ART317, ART300, and ART416). Students very much enjoyed the interaction
and energy that Dr. Carpenter brought to the classrooms. |

Professor Yafei Wang, Northeastern University, will be giving a
talk about
design education in China on Tuesday, March 21, 12:30 p.m.
to Professor Andrew Meniotes' design class. |
| Dr.
Arthur Efland, an internationally renowned art educator, visited
EMU and gave a talk on “Six Cognitive Revolutions
and Their Impact on Teaching the Arts.” The lecture took
place on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. in the
Halle Library Auditorium on EMU’s Ypsilanti campus. Dr. Efland
also visited two of the Art Department's visual arts education classes.
During one
of the class visits, Dr. Efland presented his forecast on the "Emerging
Visions of Art Education." In the other class, he held an art
education
question-and-answer session. Students were inspired by his talks and
enjoyed
the
opportunity
to
interact with
him. |

Art
educator Dr. Marilyn Stewart engaged viewers in a lively discussion
and provided guidelines and strategies to encourage the construction
of plausible interpretations of artworks in The Expressive Figure
1950-2000 exhibition in the Ford Gallery. The exhibition, curated
by Dr. Julie Myers, includes selections
from the Permanent Collection of the Art Department, Eastern Michigan
University.
The
gallery activities took place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March
16, 2005. Participants enjoyed and gave rave reviews of the
interactive gallery
