ASQ: Call for Papers

CALL FOR PAPERS

 

ARAB STUDIES QUARTERLY (ASQ) seeks critical essays for a special issue entitled “Jerusalem in Modern Arabic Literature.”  We are especially interested in papers that explore the images of the City of Jerusalem (al-Quds) in the 20th century Arab literary re/presentations (poetry, fiction, drama, literary historiography …etc.), the functioning of its textual and semiotic representations within the Arab-Israeli conflict, and comparative studies of the structures and functioning of such representations within different cultural constructs of the City.  We will also consider submissions in areas of art.

Please submit essays of 5,000-10,000 words (endnotes and references inclusive) by April 15, 2003.  Essays should be formatted in MLA sheet-style.  We prefer electronic submissions, included as attachment in Word  for Windows to Professor Ahmad Harb, the guest editor of this special issue, at ahharb@birzeit.edu or ahmusah@yahoo.com or Professor Janice Terry at Janice.Terry@emich.edu

Essays may also be submitted in hardcopy to the published address of Editor, ASQ or to Professor Ahmad Harb, Department of English, Birzeit University, P.O.Box 14, Palestine.

The editors reserve the right to accept or reject articles submitted and to copyedit articles accepted for publication.  The authors assume responsibility for the facts and interpretations in their articles.
