The Meta Hellwig Undergraduate Research Fellowship
A $2000 award given in support of research to be performed in association with an Biology Department faculty member. It is intended that this award will assist the student to perform research during a continuous period including Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter terms of the year awarded.
Eligibility: Junior or senior standing as a Biology Major by the beginning of the award period.
Deadline: Feb. 15 prior to the term or year of the award. Applications are available in the Biology Office.
Selection Criteria: Applicants should submit a one-to-two page research proposal. The proposal should include:
- description and significance of the project
- methods and materials
- timeline for the project
- an indication of the semesters for which support is being requested
The proposal will be judged on both its quality and feasibility of accomplishing its stated goals during the award period. Along with completed application, a letter of support from the sponsoring faculty member and one other letter of recommendation is required. Additional letters and other supporting documentation are encouraged.
Expectations: The student receiving the award must submit a one-to-three page typewritten report summarizing his/her accomplishments during the award period. Reports should be turned in to the Scholarship Committee by the final day of the award period. The student is expected to present his/her findings at the College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Symposium during the year of the award.
