Professor Fitzpatrick will speak about "Averroes among the Moderns: How a thinker is shaped (and misshaped) for the legacy of medieval Islam.” This talk considers the history of the “Averroesian phenomenon,” examining the promotion and denigration of Averroes’ philosophy as part of a larger phenomenon: the battle for ideas and struggle over the portrayal of Islam.
