Tired of carrying around all of your books to and from class? Free lockers are available on the second floor of the EMU Student Center, by the vending machines. Commuter Students may use a locker for the entire semester.

The Connelly Scholarship for Commuter Students

Mr. Connelly is a loyal alumnus of Eastern Michigan University and a former member of the EMU Foundation board of Trustees. Mr. Connelly was a commuter student while he attended EMU. It is his desire now to help commuter students by creating this scholarship. The goal of the scholarship is to support the retention and success of EMU commuter students by encouraging their involvement and learning in life beyond the classroom. This scholarship is open to undergraduate commuter students enrolled at least half-time, who will commit to seek active involvement on campus in the upcoming year. The Connelly Scholarship for Commuter Students is a one-time scholarship award of $250 dollars for the academic year. Several recipients will be rewarded each year. To be eligible for The Connelly Scholarship you must fulfill the following criteria:

• Be an undergraduate or pre-bachelor student who has completed at least one semester at EMU.
• Have a minimum EMU grade point average of 2.0 and maintain good academic standing for 2008-09.
• Be in good judicial standing with Student Judicial Services.
• Have financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid for 2008-09.
• Be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) for Fall 2008 and Winter 2009.
• Commute from at least 15 miles away or be living in your family’s home.
• Commit to actively seek involvement and learning on EMU’s campus (beyond the classroom) during your year as scholarship recipient (i.e. student organizations, undergraduate research, student employment, volunteerism, etc.)
• Agree to meet with a member of the Connelly Commuter Scholarship Committee in Winter semester to discuss your progress of active campus involvement.

The Deadline for all applications is Monday, May 12, 2008

Eating on the Go

Dining Services has designed two meal plans with the commuter student in mind. These meal plans will complement your needs and lifestyle and can be used in over 30 dining locations on campus which include the four convenience stores.Current commuter meal plan rates.

Why a meal plan?

• No need to carry cash, or worry if you have enough when you need it! It’s that simple!
• Balance roll over from fall to winter (but not winter to spring).
• You also MAKE MONEY when using your E-Dollars. You actually earn 3-5% on the dollar pending on how much you purchase. Now that’s a good deal!

Commuter Central recognizes issues you face on a daily basis – from parking to involvement on campus, meeting people and more!

• A commuter advisor is available to answer your questions and guide you to find further information on anything about EMU.
• Our programs are provided across campus and at different times during your day to accommodate those with varying schedules.
• We are dedicated to assisting, supporting and advocating for Eastern’s large and diverse commuter constituency.
• We encourage commuters to get connected to the university community as part of their multiple life roles.
• We recognize that commuter and off-campus students make up over half of the diverse population at EMU, and they often have diverse interests and concerns both at Eastern and in their communities.
