Buying Books

Buying books doesn't have to be traumatizing on anything other than your wallet. Stick to these tips, ask older students or advisors, and you'll be okay.

Money Savers and Tips

  • Know how to write a check.
  • Each book costs $20-120. Your total cost could range from $300-400 per semester, maybe more.
  • Instructors are always available to answer questions about textbooks.
  • Keep all receipts in case of a purchase mistake.
  • Not all bookstores carry all books. Shop around.?
  • Used books are less expensive. Shop early, they go fast. Check for highlighting or marks that may be distracting and/or helpful.
  • Online bookstore sites like Half.com, TextbooksX.com, BigWords.com, and Amazon.com may have used or new books available, but they may not ship in time for class.
  • Some students share books, or use library books. But remember it is not your book, so getting assignments done will take scheduling.

Book Buyback

  • Most bookstores buy back textbooks after the semester. You will only get a portion back of the total price you paid for them.
  • Book buyback time can be fleeting, watch bookstore schedules.
  • Think about keeping certain books for future studies.
