Managing Stress
Stop stress before it starts.
- Get enough sleep.
- When going to sleep, try to keep your mind off homework and class projects.
- Listen to music. Quiet, peaceful music is usually best.
- Take 15-30 minute walks with your roommate or friend just before winding down for the evening.
- Eat healthy.
- Give yourself time to "do nothing" during the day.
- Exercise, stay active.
- Find quiet time during the day to sit and reflect on your schedule.
- Read a non-assigned book.
- Talk to someone you trust: friends back home, roommates, or mentors.
- Set a sleep schedule. Get up and go to sleep the same time each day (even on weekends).
- Don’t procrastinate. Procrastination means stress.
- Use a planner to get ride of those "am I forgetting something?" moments.
- Make a TO-DO list to manage your time.
- Use resources at EMU Counseling Services.
