Staying Safe

Keep yourself and others safe during your time at EMU. Contact EMU's Department of Public Safety with any questions.

  • Lock your doors.
  • Don't prop your door open.
  • Lock your car and roll the windows up.
  • Keep valuables out of sight, place things in closets, glove compartments, dressers, the pockets on your body, or under your bed.
  • Best to stay indoors after dark, at least, use a buddy system if walking after dark is necessary.
  • Use a good lock for you bike. Only lock to things secured to the ground, if not using a bike rack.
  • Carry your ID with you at all times, EMU and state identification.
  • Report anything suspicious to faculty/staff members, RAs, or campus police.
  • For health safety visit EMU Health Services , resources include Health Education, Counseling Services, and child care resources.
  • Keep your immunizations updated.
  • If of legal age, drink alcohol in moderation. Understand alcohol and substance abuse warning signs [Alcohol and Substance Abuse Facts].
  • Contact faculty/staff members, RAs, or campus police with suspicions or fears that any student plans to injure them or others, or suffers from alcohol and/or substance abuse problems.
