Group Therapy and Workshops

CAPS is offering the following therapy groups and workshops the Winter semester. For more information, please call 734.487.1118.

Coming Out/Being Out Support Group

Coming Out is a lifelong, continuous process. This group welcomes gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning people to come together and discuss issues regarding coming out, being out, sexuality, identity and other topics.

Shyness and Social Anxiety Group

This group is designed to help students cope with social anxiety and shyness by utilizing cognitive behavioral principles. The group will give students an opportunity to identify negative styles of thinking, find ways to cope, and offer support, guidance, and feedback to other group members.

Understanding Self and Others Group

The group is often the treatment of choice for students who want to understand themselves better, feel more confident, and develop healthier relationships with friends, family, or significant others. Group members learn to effectively give and receive feedback to others in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Women's Therapy Group

The women's group is a safe and supportive place for women to meet, talk, and find hope. This weekly group will provide an opportunity for women to connect and build community with other women, emotionally support one another, and focus on nurturing selves and healthy relationships. Women will share their perspectives on such issues as managing academic demands while balancing relationships with friends, romantic partners, and pressures from family and society.

Feeling Better 101

Feeling Better 101 is a free 3 part workshop for EMU students offered by EMU Counseling and Psychological Services. This workshop is designed to teach skills to help cope with stress and improve your mood. Please contact CAPS to sign up for this workshop.
