CAPS offers a variety of groups and workshops during the Fall and Winter Semesters.  In the Fall Semester of 2017 we will be offering the following groups.  Please contact the clinic for start dates and to see if you need to schedule an appointment for an intake before beginning group.


Create Your Own Calm

Mondays from 4:00-5:00pm, 313 Snow Health Center

Create Your Own Calm is a reformatting of our previous drop-in mindfulness group. It is now a 4-week group focused on stress management through mindfulness. Mindfulness leads to decreases in stress and anxiety, improvements in concentration and attention, and increases in self-awareness and overall emotional well-being. Each week covers a different topic and the sessions built upon each other. You will learn something in each session, even if you missed the previous sessions. We will rotate through these sessions throughout the semester. Understanding Self and Others

Fridays from 1:00-2:30pm. Start date to be determined.  Pre-screening is required for entry into this group.

Learn about yourself and your relationships with others in a safe environment. Practice new ways to express your thoughts, feelings and build self-confidence. To attend this group, you must first attend an intake appointment.  Please call 734-487-1118 to schedule, and let the front desk know you are interested in this group. Coming Out/Being Out

This group is now full for Fall semester, but will run again in future semesters.

This group is designed for students who identify as LGBTQAI or who are questioning their gender identity and/or sexual orientation to come together and discuss issues regarding the lifelong process of coming out, being out, sexuality, identity, and other topics.   For more information please contact the co-facilitators Dr. Sharon Carney or Dr. Rachel Sienko at CAPS at 734-487-1118 or by email at scarney@emich.edu or rsienko@emich.edu .  

Soul Speak

Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00pm starting 9/12/17. Student Center, KIVA Room.

If you are a woman of color, this group will help you connect with others who share unique struggles while at EMU. It offers an encouraging space to learn more about yourself & be empowered. Contact Joi Rencher, LMSW with the MAGIC program for more information at jrencher@emich.edu .


Feeling Better 101

Feeling Better 101 is a three-part workshop for EMU students offered by EMU Counseling and Psychological Services. The workshop is designed to teach skills to help you cope with stress and improve your mood.  Please call CAPS for more information.
