CAPS offers a variety of groups and workshops during the Fall and Winter Semesters. In the Fall Semester of 2015 we will be offering the following groups. Please contact the clinic for start dates and to see if you need to schedule an appointment for an intake before beginning group.
Coming Out/Being Out
Wednesdays from 5:00-6:30, Student Center Room 347, Start Date 9/16/15
Coming out is a lifelong, continuous process. This group welcomes gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning people to come together and discuss issues regarding coming out, being out, sexuality, identity and other topics. This group is facilitated by Sharon Carney, PhD and Rose Wilson, LLMSW.
Soul Speak: Women of Color Support Group
Thursdays from 2-3:30, Student Center, Kiva Room, Start Date 9/10/15
If you are a woman of color this group will help you connect with others who share unique struggles while at EMU. It offers a safe, supportive, and encouraging space to learn more about yourself and be empowered. This group is facilitated by Joi Rencher, LMSW. Mindful Being: Drop-In Meditation Group
Mondays from 12:10-12:50, room 313 Snow Health Center, Start Date 9/14/15
This drop-in group is designed to help students learn the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness leads to decreases in stress and anxiety, improvements in concentration and attention, and increases in self-awareness and overall emotional well-being. All levels of experience with meditation are welcome, even no experience at all! This group is facilitated by Jake Nienhuis, PhD, Jillian Carey, MS, and Rose Wilson, LLMSW.
Understanding Self and Others
Fridays from 1:30-3, Pre-screening is required for entry into this group
Learn about yourself and your relationships with others in a safe environment. Practice new ways to express your thoughts, feelings and build self-confidence. To attend this group, you must first attend an intake appointment. Please call 487-1118 to schedule, and let the front desk know you are interested in this group. Feeling Better 101

Feeling Better 101 is a three-part workshop for EMU students offered by EMU Counseling and Psychological Services. This workshop is designed to teach skills to help you cope with stress and improve your mood. Please call CAPS for more information.
