CAPS offers a variety of groups and workshops during the Fall and Winter Semesters. In the Fall Semester of 2016 we will be offering the following groups. Please contact the clinic for start dates and to see if you need to schedule an appointment for an intake before beginning group.
Mindful Being: Drop-In Meditation GroupMondays from 12:10-12:50pm, 313 Snow Health Center
This drop-in group is designed to help students learn the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness leads to decreases in stress and anxiety, improvements in concentration and attention, and increases in self-awareness and overall emotional well-being. All levels of experience with meditation are welcome, even no experience at all!
Understanding Self and OthersFridays from 1:30-3:00pm. Start date to be determined. Pre-screening is required for entry into this group.
Learn about yourself and your relationships with others in a safe environment. Practice new ways to express your thoughts, feelings and build self-confidence. To attend this group, you must first attend an intake appointment. Please call 734-487-1118 to schedule, and let the front desk know you are interested in this group. If you would like more information about this group, please contact Dr. Jake Nienhuis at email@example.com
Soul Speak: Women of Color Support GroupTuesdays from 2-3:30, Student Center, Kiva Room, Start Date 9/8/16
If you are a woman of color this group will help you connect with others who share unique struggles while at EMU. It offers a safe, supportive, and encouraging space to learn more about yourself and be empowered. This group is facilitated by Joi Rencher, LMSW. You may contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Coming Out/Being OutWednesdays from 3:00-4:30pm. Start date to be determined. Pre-screening is required for entry into this group.
This group is designed for students who identify as LGBTQIA or who are questioning their gender identity and/or sexual orientation to come together and discuss issues regarding the lifelong process of coming out, being out, sexuality, identity, and other topics. This year, we are transitioning COBO from a drop-in support group to a therapy group in which members attend a group screening, commit to membership in the group, and meet on a weekly basis. This helps to ensure safety, connection, and consistency for everyone in the group. For more information please contact the co-facilitators Dr. Jillian Carey or Dr. Sharon Carney at CAPS at 734-487-1118 or by email at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
Feeling Better 101Dates and times to be announced.
Feeling Better 101 is a three-part workshop for EMU students offered by EMU Counseling and Psychological Services. The workshop is designed to teach skills to help you cope with stress and improve your mood. Please call CAPS for more information.
