Dr. Malverne Winborne is the Director of Eastern Michigan University’s Charter Schools Office. Prior to his appointment as Director, Dr. Winborne had been the Associate Director from 2002 to 2009 and Interim Director from 2009 to 2010.

Dr. Winborne’s educational background includes a B.S. degree in psychology from Morgan State University. Malverne has a Master of Arts from the University of Michigan in psychology. He also received his Doctorate in education and psychology from the University of Michigan.

Malverne has an extensive background in research and organizational development. His professional experience includes a number of years spent as a researcher, college professor and management consultant in both the private and public sectors. Dr. Winborne believes that charter schools represent one option for inspiring innovation in educating public school students in Michigan.

Dr. Winborne provides our charter school leaders and boards with information about student assessment and consultation on techniques for enhancing school performance. Malverne resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his wife.
