Organic Chemistry

Organic Teaching Lab

Organic Teaching Lab

Room 115 is where Organic Chemistry Lab (CHEM 271 and CHEM 373) is taught.  There are 18 stations and 9 eight-foot hoods, so each student has four feet of hood space for conducting his/her experiments.  There is additional bench space for work that does not need to be done in the hoods.

Advanced Organic Teaching Lab

An additional view of room 115.  In the front right you see the instructor's station with a document camera and where a laptop can be connected to the room's protector. Room 119 has 12 stations and 6 eight-foot hoods.  It is used for the Honors section of Organic Lab (CHEM 376) and the Advanced Synthesis Lab (CHEM 433).

Organic Teaching Instrument Room

Organic Teaching Instrument Room

Room 117 is the Organic Lab Instrument Room.  It is located between rooms 115 and 119 and is readily accessible from either lab.  It houses a variety of instruments used by organic laboratory students.

Gas Manifold in Room 117

This is the gas manifold in room 117 that can be used to control the flow of three different gases to the hoods in the organic labs.  Most commonly it is used to supply nitrogen gas.

Analytical/Physical Chemistry

Analytical Chemistry Lab

Analytical Chemistry Lab

Room 351 is the Analytical Chemistry teaching lab.  It has 24 stations and is used for teaching CHEM 281 and 282.

Analytical Chemistry Balance Room

Another picture of room 351 taken between semesters. This is the balance room that adjoins room 351.

Instrumental/Physical Dry Lab

Instrumental/Physical Dry Lab

Room 353 is used for both Instrumental Analysis (CHEM 381 and 481) and Physical Chemistry Lab (CHEM 463).  It has 10-12 stations.  This lab adjoins the Analytical lab so that instruments can be shared, as appropriate.

Instrumental/Physical Dry Lab

Instrumental/Physical Wet Lab

Room 353 is divided into a dry room (left-hand picture) and a wet room (right-hand picture).  There are no sinks in the dry room.  This minimizes the exposure of sensitive equipment to water and other chemicals that could influence their performance or shorten their life spans.

Biochemistry

Biochemistry Teaching Lab

Room 434 is the Biochemistry Teaching Lab where CHEM 453, Biochemistry Laboratory, is taught.  Each of the above pictures shows one-half of the lab.  Additional equipment is located in the adjoining prep room (not shown).  The room has a capacity of 12 students.
