About the College
Dean's Welcome
Welcome to EMU’s College of Health and Human Services! Our mission is to partner with communities to prepare caring and competent professionals, generate knowledge, and advocate for social justice in order to enhance quality of life, health, and well being. This mission presents us and you with countless opportunities. Increasing understanding of factors that affect health and development throughout the lifespan promises exciting professional opportunities for our faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
CHHS Faculty & Students: Involved in the Community
Academic activities based in the community are an integral part of the CHHS culture. Through academic service-learning and observation experiences in individual courses, internship and fieldwork requirements in our degree programs, clinical education, and volunteer involvements, CHHS faculty, staff, and students all contribute to regional communities and schools -- and learn in the process.
Scholarly Activities
CHHS students and faculty are engaged in a wide variety of research. Many of these projects are interdisciplinary; many are applied and/or based in the community; and many include attention to diversity as a key component. Current projects include the development and evaluation of culturally appropriate breast cancer screening programs for immigrant Asian American women, the impact of a health themed daily planner on the health behaviors of middle school students and faculty members, and effective ways of helping children and youth cope with trauma and loss.
