Our Programs

If you're interested in pursuing a career in health administration, we offer six programs to train you for a fulfilling future making a difference in how people are cared for in nursing homes, hospitals, public health agencies and other health care institutions.

  • Undergraduate

Graduates have a number of exciting employment options in:
    • hospitals
    • public health departments
    • managed care
    • health care insurance
    • health care regulation
    • mental health
    • human resource management
    • health finance
    • health care for poor and underserved populations
    • international health

Since 1988, more than 120 undergraduates have actively participated in sponsored research projects. Several of these students have used this research experience as a basis for an honors thesis or other publications. Undergraduates who have participated in faculty research projects at Eastern Michigan typically gain co-authorship in professional journal articles, participate in technical briefings to governmental bodies or research sponsors, and present findings at professional or academic meetings.

As a health administration student, you will be eligible to compete in the Student Research Paper of the Year competition, sponsored by the American Academy of Medical Administrators. EMU students have historically done well in this competition, earning a national reputation for academic excellence.

  • Graduate

Eastern's master's of health administration program is designed to develop qualified professionals with solid knowledge and skills on issues related to analysis, planning, design and management of health care institutions and organizations. Students completing the program will be prepared to serve local, state and national communities by contributing to health care-related forums and discussions on health issues, especially those relating to social policy and populations at risk.

The graduate certificate in health administration program supports the ongoing need for trained, competent health professionals. The program’s curriculum focuses on developing the management skills needed in today’s health care industry. The certificate provides specialized knowledge and includes a practicum option that will allow health professionals from a variety of fields to prepare themselves for management and administrative responsibilities.

  • Gift of Life Michigan Campus Challenge

Community members, students, staff, faculty and alumni are invited to help the Health Administration Student Organization (HASO) with this organ donation outreach program. A five-week competition between 12 universities throughout Michigan will end with a trophy being awarded to the school with the most donor registrations. Currently there are 3,500 residents of Michigan waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and tens of thousands more who need cornea and tissue transplants to improve the quality of their lives.

To sign up and help EMU get credit, visit the Gift of Life site. Be sure to select Eastern Michigan University from the dropdown menu. There will also be HASO students staffing tables at the Student Center and elsewhere on campus.
