(Staged Reading) The year 1939 was fraught with troubles. It saw the beginning of the second World War and was on the tail-end of the Great Depression. In small-town America, farmers were relying on sharecroppers to keep their farms afloat. Unfortunately, this practice went hand-in-hand with racism and unfair working conditions. In the midst of this hatred, two young girls in southeast Missouri form a secret friendship against all odds.
Directed by Meriah Sage, this is the world premiere reading of Shaking Earth, a new work by EMU Faculty member Patricia Zimmer.
Shaking Earth will be performed in the Sponberg Theatre on January 25 & 26 at 7pm and January 27 at 2pm.
Recommended for audiences ages 11+.
Staged Reading performance, all tickets $7.
