CEO and Founder of BuyMichLocal.com Draws Attention to Michigan Businesses

Michael Sacha (BBA08) parlayed his business education at Eastern Michigan University into starting an innovative marketing service that not only reaches an overall audience of 1.9 million, but is redefining how Michigan businesses reach customers.

Sacha is the founder and CEO of BuyMichLocal, a Royal Oak-based service that helps in-state businesses access the latest marketing tools in order to stay current, effective and profitable.

"Our main mission is to make life easier on Michigan businesses by recommending the latest technologies and marketing strategies to connect them with their target clients," says Sacha. "We bring services like those found on Yelp, Group On, Angie's List and Survey Monkey all under one roof, and make it affordable for business, enabling them to be more competitive in the local market."

For monthly subscription fees ranging from $30 to $150, clients can have their businesses profiled on www.BuyMichLocal.com, advertise local daily deals, utilize key word search, use a review system that lets customers write reviews, and access a survey tool that allows businesses to ask customers questions to gain feedback. BuyMichLocal also offers related services, including graphic design and web site development.

"Businesses can spend $200 for a single print ad, which is marketed to one audience on one day; or spend $30 to $150 on a monthly subscription to BuyMichLocal and get a month's worth of advertising on multiple platforms, including our website, mobile app, and social media platforms," says Sacha. His service plugs clients into the BuyMichLocal Facebook and Twitter sites, and sends email blasts to 20,000 contacts on behalf of its clients, he adds.

One of Sacha's sources of inspiration was an EMU marketing class that analyzed how businesses got extra advertising mileage from Super Bowl ads. "The class explored how a really creative ad could not only reach a vast TV audience, but reach another 20 million going viral if it got picked up by Youtube or other social media," he says. "It was a fun class, and it opened our eyes to the various ways of maximizing marketing potential."

Sacha described the atmosphere in the College of Business as "inspirational for entrepreneurs." "In a way, Eastern is like an incubator for entrepreneurs. A lot of my COB buddies went on to start their own businesses," says Sacha, who worked as a mortgage banker and a multi-media account executive for Gannett before founding his own business in October 2012.

It's that same entrepreneurial spirit that is driving Sacha to continually "tweak" his business to add value. "I'm currently working on a custom map feature that allows clients to advertise their location in a user-friendly way," he says. "I expect our offerings will continue to expand as they bring the latest media marketing strategies right to local business owners' doors." He is also looking for highly skilled marketing executives to come on board and help grow the business.
