RE: EMU Response to Standards
DATE: October 20, 2003
The following chart identifies each standard or part of a standard not met as stated in the SPA report. It references specific artifact(s) that document the action taken. These artifacts are found in the appendices of this program review rejoinder.
Response to Each Standard or Part of Standard Not Met
Guideline 3 Curriculum, Instruction, Supervision & the Learning Environment EMU Response: We believe this standard focuses on the core work of school leaders. We are working with faculty from the Department of Teacher Education to design a new course EDLD/CURR 5XX that will address the standards in Guideline 3. The educational leadership faculty has endorsed the course and preliminary planning, including student performance activities, have been discussed. The course will be co-developed with the Department of Teacher Education and when finalized will be submitted through the university input system. Attached Evidence in Appendices: Syllabus for EDLD/CURR 5XX |
Guideline 4 Professional Development and Human Resources EMU Response: We recognize the importance of this guideline and its accompanying standards. The content is addressed in several courses including EDLD 515, 615, 617, 620 and 625. Attached Evidence in Appendices: Syllabus for EDLD 615 Policy #2005 Sample Program of Study C |
Guideline 5 Student Personnel Services EMU Response: The content included in Guideline 5 is included in several courses. They include EDLD/CURR 5XX under development (5.1), EDLD 513 (5.4), EDLD 620 (5.3), and ELD 625 (5.2, 5.3, 5.5). Attached Evidence in Appendices: Syllabus for EDLD 513 Policy #2005 Sample Program of Study C |
Guideline 7 Interpersonal Relationships EMU Response: The standards related to this guideline are also critical for school leaders. Most of the standards are address in EDLD 513 and we have modified performance activities so that they are required of all students. Attached Evidence in Appendices: Syllabus for EDLD 513 Policy #2005 Sample Program of Study C |
Guideline 8 Financial Management and Resource Allocation EMU Response: In the spring of 2003 the educational leadership program modified requirements for the EdS degree. Students must select one of three program options. The options for district level leadership and building and district level leadership require EDLD 612 – Economic of Public Education. Attached Evidence in Appendices: Syllabus for EDLD 612 Policy #2005 Sample Program of Study C |
Guideline 9 Technology and Information Systems EMU Response: In the spring of 2003 the educational leadership program modified requirements for the EdS degree. Students must select one of three program options. The options for district level leadership and building and district level leadership require EDLD 518 – Multimedia Technology for School Administration.
