Comments: Under Section V. Program Information, the
institution states, “A student receiving a DI endorsement is NOT qualified to
teach specific content courses in biology or chemistry or earth science or
physics.” The reviewers wish to note
that a candidate who is DI secondary endorsed is nonetheless approved
to teach chemistry, physics, biology, and earth-space science in grades
7-12. The Program Information section stated that “Our
comprehensive major has at least 56 science (plus math) content hours…” The reviewers recorded 52 hours in this comprehensive
group major. Math courses are not
counted in the comprehensive Integrated Science major. The Reviewers were impressed with the amount of
detail in the narrative explanations for the matrix. The reviewers were pleased with the
interdisciplinary character of the physics labs. The
institution is encouraged to begin collecting outcome data related to the
Integrated Science: Secondary standards because outcome data will be the
basis of subsequent periodic reviews. |
