Standards/Requirements
Not Met: The following standards are not fully met: Standard B:
develops an understanding of the interconnectedness of all the sciences Standard
5.0: relate the concepts of biology
to contemporary, historical, technological and societal issues Standard
11.0: demonstrate competence in the
practice of teaching as defined within the Entry-Level Standards for Michigan
Teachers |
|||||
|
Additional
information needed/action to be taken: Standard B: Your example of interconnectedness is good but not all students in the minor take 315. The syllabi of the other courses do not provide evidence of this standard. You need to include, either on the syllabus or in the narrative, specific examples for all students. Standard 5.0: Evidence is lacking that students are proficient in relating the concepts in biology to historical issues. Standard 11.0:
It is insufficient to provide only evidence from an elective
course. In the section for minors,
there is no evidence presented in this standard that the teacher candidates
are proficient. It is likely that this
standard is met in other education courses such as CURR 305 mentioned and in
student teaching but you must provide evidence. Indeed, many of your standards are met
through this course but, unless all minors take it, not all students can use
this to meet a standard. |

Comments: The
extent of information for biology faculty about state standards and the needs
of pre-service teachers is impressive. The
detail provided in the narrative facilitated the review process. The
extent to which the program addresses gender and multicultural issues is
impressive. |
